What is a photocatalyst mosquito lamp?
A photocatalyst mosquito killing lamp is a type of insect trap that utilizes photocatalysis to attract and eliminate mosquitoes and other flying insects. Photocatalysis is a process in which a catalyst, typically a semiconductor material is activated by light to create chemical reactions.
In the case of a photocatalyst mosquito killing lamp, ultraviolet (UV) light is typically used to activate the photocatalyst coating on the surface of the lamp. When UV light interacts with the photocatalyst, it generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as hydroxyl radicals and superoxide ions. These ROS are highly reactive and can effectively oxidize organic molecules, including those found in the exoskeletons of mosquitoes and other insects.
As mosquitoes are attracted to UV light, they are drawn towards the lamp. When they come into contact with the activated photocatalyst surface, the ROS produced by the photocatalytic reaction damage their exoskeletons, ultimately leading to their demise.
